As restrições impostas por conta do novo coronavírus provocarão nos próximos meses perdas que oscilarão entre 1,2 e 3,3 trilhões de dólares para o turismo e setores relacionados, de acordo com uma estimativa divulgada pela ONU.
“Estes números nos recordam claramente algo que esquecemos com frequência: a importância econômica do setor e seu papel de salva-vidas para milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo”, destacou Pamela Coke-Hamilton, da Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre Comércio e Desenvolvimento (CNUCED).
O documento tem como base uma avaliação recente da Organização Mundial do Turismo (OMT), que calcula que por si só a queda da demanda de viagens internacionais poderia representar uma perda entre 850 milhões e 1,1 bilhão de viajantes.
A CNUCED elaborou a partir do estudo três cenários, que incluem desde “as perdas de hotéis e restaurantes a produtores que vendem seus produtos diretamente aos hotéis, bancos, produtores de energia, setor da construção, entre outros”, explicou à AFP Ralf Peters, diretor do departamento de informação sobre comércio da CNUCED.
O cenário intermediário elaborado pela CNUCED representa uma interrupção do turismo internacional de oito meses, com perdas de 2,2 trilhões de de dólares, ou seja, 2,8% do Produto Interno Bruto (PIB) mundial.
Se a interrupção das atividades chegar a um ano, as perdas serão de 3,3 trilhões de dólares, 4,2% do PIB mundial.
No cenário intermediário, a CNUCED calcula que a Jamaica seria o país mais afetado no mundo, pela proporção do peso do turismo em seu PIB, seguido por Tailândia, Croácia e Portugal.
Em termos absolutos, Estados Unidos e China são os mais afetados, seguidos por Tailândia, França, Alemanha, Espanha, Reino Unido e Itália.
