A tempestade Elsa tocou o chão de Cuba nesta segunda-feira (5), perto da Baía dos Porcos, antes de seguir rumo ao sul da Flórida, nos Estados Unidos, segundo o serviço meteorológico americano.
Com ventos de até 100km/h, a tempestade ganhou força na noite de domingo (4) e o sinal do mau tempo já é sentido em Miami – o que pode atrapalhar as buscas por sobreviventes do desabamento que já dura quase duas semanas.
A Elsa já atingiu várias ilhas do Caribe e deixou ao menos três mortes (uma na ilha de Santa Lúcia e duas na República Dominicana).

Autoridades cubanas retiraram 180 mil pessoas de casa por precaução, devido à possibilidade de fortes inundações, e emitiram alertas de furacão para as províncias de Cienfuegos e Matanzas.
O Centro Nacional de Furacões dos EUA (NHC, na sigla em inglês) prevê que o fenômeno chegue à costa da Flórida durante a madrugada desta terça (6).

O serviço cubano de meteorologia alerta para a persistência de intensas chuvas durante a semana, mesmo após a passagem do centro da tempestade.
Demolição na Flórida
Antes da chegada da tempestade tropical Elsa e após um total de 27 mortos e 118 desaparecidos no desastre, o prédio que colapsou na região de Miami, foi demolido completamente nesta madrugada (veja no vídeo abaixo).

A prefeita do condado de Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cava, confirmou que já foi dada a autorização para que as equipes retomem as buscas por vítimas nos escombros.
Antes, os destroços da parte implodida foram retirados para que as equipes de resgate pudessem entrar em partes da garagem subterrânea, em busca de bolsões de ar que possam abrigar sobreviventes.
