A beleza do Pantaninho impressiona até quem há muito tempo está habituado com o visual. É o caso de Massud Abuzgaib Filho, aposentado que há 20 anos mora perto da área de preservação.
O nome é uma referência ao Pantanal de Mato Grosso e de Mato Grosso do Sul. A versão paulista é formada por áreas alagadas dos rios Jacaré-Pepira e Jacaré-Guaçu, que desaguam no Rio Tietê. A área chegou a 65 mil hectares depois da construção da hidrelétrica de Ibitinga na década de 1960.

O especialista em recursos hídricos Osrael Henrique Resende diz que houve na área um impacto positivo bem grande com a criação de um ambiente propício à reprodução.
Atualmente, o local é um santuário de muitas espécies de animais como lobo-guará, onça parda e tamanduás, entre tantos outros. A vegetação tem Mata Atlântica em transição para o cerrado, abrigando aves das mais variadas espécies.
O Pantaninho é de difícil acesso e isso vem ajudando na preservação. As visitas e passeios de contemplação são as opções que a prefeitura de Ibitinga pretende desenvolver para atrair turistas.
Explorar todo o potencial turístico do Pantaninho, sem se esquecer da preservação, é o desafio para os próximos anos.
