Em Israel, milhares de pelicanos que viajam para o sul estão em busca de comida, o que preocupa os pescadores do país.
O governo israelense criaram uma reserva para tentar atrair os pelicanos e, assim, proteger a pesca comercial.

Centenas de milhões de pássaros atravessam os céus de Israel durante as temporadas de imigração. O número pode chegar a 500 milhões de aves.
Nesta época do ano, eles saem de regiões ao norte com destino à África.

Os pelicanos estão entre os maiores pássaros que fazem esse trajeto. Estima-se que 45 mil deles passam por Israel.
Como os pelicanos comem peixes, tentam oferecer aos animais alimentos em um local longe dos pontos onde há pesca.
Cerca de 2,5 toneladas de peixes que não são consumidos por humanos foram colocados em um lago perto da costa mediterrânea do país.
“O programa visa minimizar o atrito entre o homem e o pelicano”, disse Ofir Bruckenstein, do órgão responsável por parques e natureza de Israel.
A partir deste local, eles podem continuar sua migração.

A Sociedade para a Proteção da Natureza em Israel estima que cerca de metade das aves morrem durante a jornada sazonal, que cobre milhares de quilômetros.
Os pássaros morrem por serem predados e também em decorrência de atividades humanas, como a destruição de habitats, disse o grupo.
