Jane substituirá Michael Corbat, que se aposenta em fevereiro de 2021. De acordo com um comunicado, ela passa a integrar a diretoria de forma imediata.

Na instituição financeira há 16 anos, Jane Fraser hoje dirige o setor de varejo, completou a nota.
“Estou honrada com a decisão do conselho e agradeço a Mike por sua liderança e apoio”, disse Fraser, de acordo com o comunicado.
“Nosso resultado financeiro é forte, e nosso compromisso em servir nossos clientes e comunidades é ainda mais forte. Farei tudo o que puder para deixar todos os interessados orgulhosos da nossa empresa, à medida que continuamos a construir um banco melhor e melhorar nosso desempenho”, declarou.

Recuperação depois da crise
Depois de sofrer muito durante a crise das hipotecas, o Citigroup se recuperou na década seguinte à crise financeira de 2008.
De 2012 a 2019, o gigante bancário viu seu lucro líquido subir de US$ 7 bilhões para US$ 20 bilhões, disse Corbat no comunicado.

“Deixamos de retornar quase nenhum capital para retornar quase US$ 80 bilhões em capital para os nossos acionistas nos últimos seis anos”, acrescentou.
Como outros grandes bancos, o Citigroup agora enfrenta um ambiente muito mais difícil, devido ao confinamento pela pandemia que causou estragos em pequenas empresas e atingiu vários setores, incluindo turismo e energia.
No trimestre mais recente, o Citigroup adicionou US$ 5,6 bilhões em reservas para perdas com empréstimos.
No Citi desde 2004
Nascida na Escócia, Jane Fraser chegou ao Citi em 2004, depois de trabalhar na Goldman Sachs e na McKinsey &Company. Ela falou abertamente sobre ser uma mãe da área de finanças, relatando, em 2016, como trabalhou meio período na McKinsey.
Ter filhos “me humanizou”, disse Fraser em uma apresentação na Americas Society em 2016.
“Não há nada como ter filhos para ajudar você a entender onde estão suas prioridades”, completou.
