Dois focos de incêndios na Austrália, próximos à fronteira entre os estados de Victoria e New South Wales, podem se tornar um só com grandes dimensões. A autoridade de combate a incêndios alertou nesta terça-feira (6) que as duas áreas que queimam estão separados por apenas dez quilômetros.
Caso as temperaturas do país aumentem e o tempo se mantenha seco, os dois focos de queimada podem se encontrar. Com isso, eles formarão uma área de 500 mil hectares sob chamas. Os incêndios florestais têm se espalhado principalmente na costa sudeste do país.
De acordo com o último balanço divulgado pelo governo australiano, na segunda-feira (6), o fogo já matou 25 pessoas, destruiu quase 8 milhões de hectares de floresta, queimou mais de mil casas e matou quase 500 milhões de animais.
Apenas na região de New South Wales, se estima que 1/3 da população de coalas foi dizimada pelo fogo.

A Austrália vive um dos piores incêndios florestais dos últimos anos, com focos que começaram em setembro do ano passado. O fenômeno é causado pela combinação de temperaturas superiores a 40 ºC, pouca chuva e fortes ventos.
As queimadas atingiram mais de 8 milhões de hectares de terras pelo país, uma área do tamanho da Irlanda. Foram destruídos milhares de prédios e cidades ficaram sem eletricidade e sinal de telefonia móvel.
A Austrália vai destinar 2 bilhões de dólares australianos, cerca de R$ 5,6 bilhões, além das dezenas de milhões já prometidas, para a recuperação de áreas afetadas pelos incêndios, segundo o primeiro-ministro do país.
