Negócio criará gigante da segurança cibernética com mais de 500 milhões de clientes em todo o mundo. O grupo americano NortonLifeLock anunciou nesta quarta-feira (11) que chegou a um acordo para comprar a rival tcheca Avast por mais de US$ 8 bilhões, com o objetivo de criar um gigante da segurança cibernética.
O NortonLifeLock explica em um comunicado que a operação avalia a Avast em um valor entre 8,1 e 8,6 bilhões de dólares, segundo as modalidades financeiras que serão escolhidas pelos acionistas da empresa tcheca.
O novo grupo terá mais de 500 milhões de clientes em todo o mundo.
A fusão deve representar 280 milhões de dólares de sinergia de custos por ano. Os acionistas da Avast possuirão entre 14% e 26% do novo grupo.
“Esta transação é um enorme passo adiante na segurança virtual para os consumidores”, declarou Vincent Pilette, CEO da Norton.
O grupo afirmou em julho que as duas empresas têm a mesma visão do mercado e que se complementam muito bem, sobretudo no aspecto geográfico.
Para Ondrej Vlcek, CEO da Avast, a fusão permitirá aos dois grupos crescer mais “em um momento no qual as ameaças de hackers no mundo aumentam, apesar do uso de produtos de segurança virtual continuar baixo”.
A pandemia provocou um aumento do risco de pirataria, com o auge do teletrabalho com aparelhos em muitos casos vulneráveis a ataques de hackers.
O novo grupo terá suas bases em Praga (República Tcheca) e em Tempe (Arizona) e cotação na Bolsa Nasdaq dos Estados Unidos.
Criado em 1988, Avast é um dos grupos mais importantes de software de segurança e oferece seus produtos a empresas e clientes particulares para proteger seus computadores contra vírus e outros ataques.
Como a Avast, a NortonLifeLock (anteriormente Symantec) se concentra nos produtos de segurança para o público em geral, após a venda de sua divisão de segurança de empresas ao grupo de semicondutores Broadcom, em 2018.
