Líderes de grandes empresas do agronegócio assinaram um manifesto que pede ações de combate ao desmatamento na Amazônia.
O documento já foi assinado por 47 companhias nacionais e estrangeiras de diversos setores, e mais cinco entidades de classe. Na lista de assinaturas, estão grandes empresas do agro, como Cosan, BRF, Cargill e Bayer.

O manifesto foi enviado para o coordenador do Conselho Nacional da Amazônia Legal, o vice-presidente Hamilton Mourão. Na carta, o grupo expõe a “preocupação com o impacto nos negócios da atual percepção negativa da imagem do Brasil no exterior, em relação às questões socioambientais na Amazônia”.
As empresas também se colocaram à disposição para ajudar em ações contra o desmatamento ilegal, inclusão social e econômica das comunidades locais e redução do impacto ambiental no uso de recursos naturais da floresta.
Números do desmatamento
Os alertas de desmatamento aumentaram 25% no primeiro semestre de 2020, em relação a igual período do ano passado, de acordo com o Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (Inpe). Se comparado com o primeiro semestre de 2017, os números mais que que dobraram. Na ocasião, o mesmo sistema de alerta apontava para um desmatamento de um pouco mais de 1.300 km². E, em 2020, já passam de 3 mil km².
