Um resort de ski na França tem usado helicópteros para transportar neve que será usada para cobrir trechos secos da pista.
As temperaturas passaram de 10ºC na região. E para meteorologistas, temperaturas amenas e escassez de neve estão associadas ao aquecimento global.
Para contornar isso, quase 50 toneladas de neve foram coletadas de montanhas mais altas e despejadas nos trajetos usados por crianças e esquiadores iniciantes no resort Luchon-Superbagnères, nos Pirineus.

A operação para manter abertas pistas de esqui custou ao conselho local o equivalente a cerca de R$ 23 mil.
Hervé Pounau, diretor do órgão, afirmou que o investimento valeu a pena.
“Nós não vamos cobrir a estação inteira de neve, mas sem isso teríamos que fechar grande parte da região de esqui. Nesse período, temos bastante atividades para iniciativas e escolas de esqui”, afirmou.
Recessos escolares em fevereiro e março costumam ser os períodos mais cheios em resorts de esqui na França.

Segundo Pounau, a operação de transporte de neve protegeu o emprego de quase 80 pessoas, entre elas operadores de teleféricos, professores e cuidadores.
Mas, por outro lado, a estratégia recebeu críticas de grupos ambientalistas.
“Em vez de se adaptar a aquecimento global, nós acabaremos multiplicando o problema: algo que custa um monte de energia, que contribui em peso para o aquecimento global e que apenas uma pequena elite pode bancar. O mundo está de cabeça para baixo”, afirmou Bastien Ho, do grupo Europe Écologie Les Verts (EELV).

Pounau admitiu que o transporte de neve não era uma solução “particularmente ecológica”, mas disse “não ter alternativa”.
Diversos resorts de esqui nos Pirineus têm vislumbrado um futuro cada vez mais incerto, já que uma quantidade menor de neve resulta em um número menor de visitantes.
Neste mês, o resort de esqui de Le Mourtis foi obrigado a fechar temporariamente suas pistas, impactando a economia local em torno da atividade turística.
Temperatuas mais amenas têm derretido a neve em altitudes menos elevadas. Segundo o serviço nacional de meteorologia da França (Meteo-France), o país registrou o janeiro mais ameno desde 1900.
