Uma perereca com “polegares opositores” – conhecida como perereca-macaco – foi encontrada em uma área de mata em Vilhena (RO), no Cone Sul do estado. A Phyllomedusa camba é uma espécie rara capaz de caminhar em vez de apenas pular (assista no vídeo acima).
Segundo os pesquisadores que encontraram o anfíbio na semana passada, os “polegares” permitem que a perereca também consiga agarrar com mais facilidade as folhas e galhos durante o deslocamento pela floresta.
Ela foi capturada por pesquisadores da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), que em conjunto com professores e estudantes de biologia do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia (Ifro) fizeram incursões na mata para encontrar sapos, rãs e pererecas. A ação teve auxílio da Secretaria Municipal de Meio Ambiente de Vilhena (Semma).

Para localizar os anfíbios, os pesquisadores fazem longas caminhadas por áreas de vegetação densa, rios, pântanos e cachoeiras.
Um dos objetivos da ação é fazer uma lista com espécies que correm risco de extinção por causa da fragmentação da mata. Com esse levantamento, também será possível analisar se as espécies que vivem na floresta nativa são as mesmas da floresta plantada.
Durante as futuras expedições, está prevista a coleta de amostras de tecido para sequenciamento de DNA.

Em setembro, durante a primeira incursão, os pesquisadores encontraram uma perereca “fluorescente” no Parque Ecológico de Vilhena.
“É um bicho que não é tão difícil de achar. Foi descoberto há pouco tempo que, quando a gente coloca nelas uma luz ultravioleta, elas brilham. E isso é interessante porque faz com que esses animais consigam um sucesso reprodutivo maior”, explicou o biólogo Thiago Baldine.

Na ocasião a equipe coletou cerca de 23 espécies, inclusive a conhecida como “perereca de vidro”, que tem a pele transparente.
Os espécimes encontrados no estado serão analisados no Rio de Janeiro e incluídos em registros nacionais.
Segundo a Semma, caso as equipes encontrem espécies que estejam em extinção ou não catalogadas, isso pode servir como argumento para tentar transformar a área em uma unidade de conservação.
