O homem mais rico do mundo e presidente-executivo da Amazon, Jeff Bezos, anunciou nesta segunda-feira (17) a criação do “Bezos Earth Fund”, um fundo de US$ 10 bilhões que apoiará projetos que lutam contra a mudança climática.
Segundo o post de Bezos em uma de suas redes sociais, o fundo vai financiar cientistas, ativistas, ONGs e “qualquer esforço que ofereça uma possibilidade real de ajudar a preservar e proteger o mundo”, afirmou. O objetivo, segundo ele, é também tornar coletivas ações positivas de grandes e pequenas empresas, países, organizações globais e indivíduos.

Apesar do alto valor destinado ao fundo, os US$ 10 bilhões não correspondem nem a 10 por cento da fortuna acumulada por Bezos, que, atualmente, está estimada em US$ 131 bilhões.
No final do ano passado, Bezos fez uma doação de quase US$100 milhões para fundações que prestam apoio às pessoas em situação de rua.
