Um afresco que retrata o que pode ser o primeiro registro da pizza italiana foi encontrado na parede de uma casa na antiga cidade romana de Pompeia, na Itália, informou o Ministério da Cultura da Itália nesta terça-feira (27).
Arqueólogos acreditam que o prato pintado é o “primeiro parente” da iguaria na Itália.
Embora tecnicamente não possa ser considerada uma pizza, já que carece de ingredientes clássicos como tomate e muçarela, o que foi encontrado em Pompeia “pode ser um parente distante do prato moderno”, segundo um comunicado.
Pompéia, destruída por uma erupção do vulcão Vesúvio há quase 2.000 anos, fica a apenas 23 km de Nápoles, onde, segundo registros, surgiu a primeira pizza da versão mais conhecida, com molho de tomate e queijo, um alimento que faz parte do Patrimônio Imaterial da Unesco.

Historiador italiano questiona origem da pizza e gera furor na Itália
Na pintura, um pão achatado é representado ao lado de uma taça de vinho, e, segundo os arqueólogos que fizeram a descoberta, pode ter sido comido com frutas como romãs ou tâmaras, ou ainda temperado com especiarias e um tipo de molho pesto.
O afresco foi descoberto no hall de uma casa que tinha uma padaria anexa, que foi parcialmente escavada no século XIX. Em janeiro deste ano, os trabalhos foram retomados no local, ainda segundo o Ministério da Cultura.
As ruínas de Pompeia passaram por um grande aumento da atividade arqueológica recentemente, com o objetivo de interromper anos de decadência e negligência, em grande parte graças a um projeto financiado pela União Europeia de 105 milhões de euros (cerca de R$ 551 milhões).
