Esta já é a a 28ª tempestade no Atlântico em 2020. Na quarta, ela deve se aproximar da costa dos EUA. Região de Tulum, em Quintana Roo, já havia sido atingida pelo ciclone Delta no começo do mês. Além do furacão Zeta, na semana passada a costa mexicana já havia enfrentado o furação Delta, que provocou destruição em comércios e residências.

O Zeta foi rebaixado a tempestade tropical, nesta terça-feira (27), após atingir a costa sudeste do México na noite de segunda-feira (26), quando foi classificado como um furacão de categoria 1. Dias atrás, a mesma região no Caribe mexicano, perto de um resort em Tulum, já havia sido atingida pelo ciclone Delta.
A tempestade agora está localizada a 75 km do leste de Puerto Progreso, no estado de Yucatán, com ventos máximos sustentados de 110 km/h, segundo o Centro Nacional de Furacões dos Estados Unidos (NHC). O instituto espera que o Zeta ultrapasse o Golfo do México nesta terça-feira (27) e se aproxime da costa dos Estados Unidos na quarta-feira (28).
O governador de Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín, disse que a passagem do furacão pelo estado – onde estão os balneários de Cancún, Tulum e Riviera Maia – não deixou vítimas ou danos significativos.
“Os relatórios que temos até agora indicam um saldo em branco após a passagem do furacão Zeta por Quintana Roo”, postou Joaquín no Twitter.
“Aeroportos em operação, hospitais e centros de saúde sem incidentes e obras sendo feitas para restaurar os serviços públicos que foram perdidos em algumas cidades e bairros”, acrescentou.

Na madrugada de 7 de outubro, o furacão Delta atingiu a costa perto de Cancún com a categoria 2 (de 5) na escala Saffir-Simpson, não deixando vítimas, apenas danos materiais.
A passagem de furacões e tempestades é um novo golpe para esses resorts, que viram a chegada de visitantes cair drasticamente devido à pandemia covid-19. O turismo representa mais de 8% do PIB do México.
A temporada de furacões de 2020 no Atlântico está registrando um recorde de atividade. Zeta é a 28ª tempestade.
Esgotados os nomes dados a esses fenômenos, os meteorologistas começaram a identificá-los com o alfabeto grego.
