A Volkswagen informou nesta quarta-feira (23) que vai pagar cerca de R$ 36 milhões em indenizações a mais de 60 ex-funcionários perseguidos durante a ditadura militar no Brasil entre 1964 e 1985.
Uma comissão que investiga abusos durante a ditadura no Brasil encontrou evidências de que empresas como a Volkswagen secretamente ajudaram os militares a identificar suspeitos “subversivos” e ativistas sindicais em suas folhas de pagamento.
Muitos dos trabalhadores foram demitidos, detidos ou assediados pela polícia e não conseguiram encontrar novos empregos durante anos, publicou a Reuters de 2014.
A Volkswagen disse que assinou um acordo nesta quarta-feira (23) com o Ministério Público estadual e federal em São Paulo que inclui o pagamento de R$ 16,8 milhões a uma associação de ex-funcionários e seus dependentes. O restante será doado a vários esforços relacionados aos direitos humanos.
Os promotores disseram em comunicado que o negócio vai resolver três processos lançados desde 2015.
“É importante lidar com responsabilidade com este capítulo negativo da história do Brasil e promover a transparência”, disse o conselheiro da VW, Hiltrud Werner, em comunicado.
O acordo da Volkswagen foi relatado pela primeira vez pelas mídias alemãs NDR, SWR e pelo diário Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
O historiador Christopher Kopper, da Universidade de Bielefeld, que foi contratado pela Volkswagen para examinar o caso, disse que o acordo é histórico.
“É a primeira vez que uma empresa alemã aceita responsabilidade por violações dos direitos humanos contra seus próprios trabalhadores por eventos que aconteceram após o fim do nacional-socialismo”, disse ele.
A Volkswagen disse no comunicado que, embora a investigação de Kopper tenha encontrado cooperação entre seus agentes de segurança brasileiros e o regime militar, não há evidências claras de que a cooperação foi institucionalizada na empresa.
