Trump impôs tarifas sobre aço e alumínio importados para ajudar a aumentar a produção dos EUA, o que ele diz ser uma questão de segurança nacional.
Desde a imposição de tarifas, disse Trump, as importações de aço e alumínio caíram, mas as importações de produtos derivados, como pregos de aço e cabos de alumínio, aumentaram.
Trump disse que “os produtores estrangeiros desses artigos derivados aumentaram os envios desses artigos para os Estados Unidos, a fim de contornar os impostos sobre artigos de alumínio e artigos de aço”. Ele disse que o aumento das tarifas entrará em vigor em 8 de fevereiro.
