A SpaceX, empresa de transporte espacial do bilionário Elon Musk, realizou na última quinta-feira (3) um novo lançamento de satélites de internet. É o 12º lote da rede Starlink, que irá oferecer conexão a partir do espaço.
Foram 60 satélites enviados a partir de um foguete Falcon 9, que decolou do Centro Espacial Kennedy, na Flórida.
Com esse lançamento, a rede Starlink passa a contar com 700 satélites em órbita baixa, entre 540 km e 570 km da Terra. A ideia é levar internet para regiões remotas.

A engenheira sênior da SpaceX, Kate Tice, declarou que os testes de velocidade do Starlink alcançaram velocidades maiores do que 100 Mb/s (megabits por segundo), “rápido o suficiente para transmitir vários filmes HD de uma vez”.
Luzes de satélites surpreendem moradores de várias cidades gaúchas
Essa velocidade seria equivalente a da banda larga oferecida em grandes cidades do Brasil. A conexão 4G de celular, por exemplo, varia entre 11 e 35 Mb/s nas capitais, de acordo com relatórios da empresa OpenSignal.
A engenheira disse ainda que a latência, velocidade de resposta entre um servidor e o dispositivo, é “baixa o suficiente para jogos online”.
Em agosto, pessoas que utilizaram o serviço da companhia publicaram em um fórum que conseguiram velocidades de download entre 11 e 60 Mb/s, realizando a medição da conexão por um aplicativo.
O plano da companhia é lançar pelo menos 12.000 satélites e alcançar velocidades acima de 1 Gb/s (gigabit por segundo).
A empresa já abriu um registro para que interessados testem o serviço de internet via satélite, que funcionará inicialmente em Washington, nos Estados Unidos.
