A Polícia Militar Ambiental aplicou nesta quinta-feira (13) uma multa no valor de R$ 5 mil a um homem, de 50 anos, identificado como responsável pelo abate de um veado-mateiro em um sítio na zona rural de Pacaembu (SP).
A espécie está na lista dos animais ameaçados de extinção e o homem ainda vai responder pelo crime de caça.
Os policiais compareceram à propriedade rural depois de terem recebido uma denúncia anônima de que estaria ocorrendo caça de animais nativos silvestres no local.
O morador permitiu a entrada dos militares no imóvel e acompanhou a vistoria.
Em um paiol, os policiais encontraram uma cabeça de veado-mateiro e, no pasto do sítio, depararam-se com um pedaço do couro e uma pata do animal.
Em uma caixa térmica, havia partes de carne do animal.

No âmbito administrativo, o morador do sítio recebeu um auto de infração ambiental no valor de R$ 5 mil por matar espécime da fauna silvestre sem a devida autorização da autoridade competente, infringindo o artigo 25 da resolução SMA 48/14, majorado devido à presença da espécie na lista de animais ameaçados de extinção.
Além disso, segundo a polícia, ele ainda vai responder pelo crime de caça, previsto no artigo 29 da lei 9.605/98.
Os policiais apreenderam as partes do corpo do animal, que totalizaram 14,780 quilos, e as destinaram a uma vala sanitária.

Integrante da família dos cervídeos, o veado-mateiro (Mazama americana) tem cor avermelhada, com pescoço acinzentado e ventre branco. Ele pesa entre 30 e 40 quilos.
Morfologicamente, é a maior espécie do gênero Mazama, com dorso arqueado com altura entre 58 a 80 centímetros e comprimento de 90 a 145 centímetros.
O veado-mateiro é uma espécie sem galhada. Apenas apresenta um chifre de até 20 centímetros. No Brasil, ocorrem cinco espécies conhecidas de veados cujos machos têm chifres simples, sem ramificações, como o mateiro.
Alimenta-se de gramíneas e brotos.
