Depois da passagem do furacão, grandes empresas já começaram a retornar a sua produção de petróleo. Os preços do petróleo recuaram nesta sexta-feira (28), depois de a passagem do furacão Laura pelo “coração” da indústria petrolífera dos Estados Unidos não causar grandes danos, o que faz com que as empresas já comecem a retomar suas operações na região.
Os contratos futuros do petróleo Brent para outubro, que expiram nesta sexta, fecharam em queda de 0,04 dólar, a US$ 45,05 por barril. Já o petróleo dos EUA (WTI) recuou 0,07 dólar, para US$ 42,97 o barril.

Ambos os valores de referência acumularam ganhos de cerca de 1,5% na semana, com o WTI avançando pela quarta semana consecutiva. As cotações chegaram a bater máximas de cinco meses durante a semana, à medida que produtores norte-americanos reduziam o bombeamento a níveis próximos dos verificados em 2005, na passagem do furacão Katrina, antes da chegada do Laura.
“O mercado do petróleo foi caracterizado por firmes avanços no início da semana, com um prêmio considerável injetado no mercado antes do furacão Laura. Esse prêmio foi devolvido após a chegada do furacão, com a indicação de impactos limitados à produção ‘offshore’ e à atividade das refinarias”, disse Jim Ritterbusch, presidente da Ritterbusch and Associates.
Em contraste com os mercados de ações, o petróleo tem passado por um período atipicamente longo de baixa volatilidade, conforme destacou o analista Eugen Weinberg, do Commerzbank.
“Ele não reagiu nem ao dólar mais fraco. Não há impulso em nenhuma direção. Raramente há tão pouca volatilidade por um período tão longo, especialmente considerando a situação dinâmica nos frontes de demanda e oferta”, afirmou Weinberg.
