Policiais militares ambientais conseguiram resgatar uma capivara que havia sido alvo de uma armadilha de caça às margens de um córrego no bairro Vencesville, em Presidente Venceslau (SP).
Após receber uma denúncia de caça, a equipe dirigiu-se ao local, realizou uma incursão na mata ciliar e não obteve êxito em encontrar o possível caçador, nesta terça-feira (11).
No entanto, os policiais se depararam com uma armadilha do tipo “laço” na qual estava presa a capivara.
Segundo a Polícia Militar Ambiental, a armadilha estava montada em um carreador de animais que passavam por uma cerca de arame farpado.
No local, restavam ainda dois pedaços de cabo de aço que haviam sido usados no passado também como armadilha, por conta das características como se apresentavam.
Em razão do risco de uma nova captura, segundo a polícia, o animal foi solto pelos militares às margens do Rio Santo Anastácio, em habitat natural, já que apresentava perfeitas condições físicas (veja vídeo abaixo).
Já a armadilha foi apreendida.

Roedor
A capivara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) é o maior roedor vegetariano do mundo. Um animal adulto pode pesar 70 quilos. Ela tem cabeça grande, orelhas pequenas e não possui cauda. O macho pode ser identificado por uma glândula sebácea, localizada no focinho.
Essa espécie se alimenta de capins e ervas comuns em várzeas e alagados. Tem hábitos semiaquáticos e é excelente mergulhadora, tendo inclusive pés com pequenas membranas. Ela se reproduz na água, onde esconde-se dos predadores. Por isso, a capivara pode permanecer submersa por alguns minutos.
A capivara pasta à procura de alimento e utiliza a água como refúgio. Ela é tolerante à vida em ambientes alterados pelo homem. Com hábitos diurnos e noturnos, vive em grupos, normalmente com cerca de 20 indivíduos.
O período de gestação é de cinco meses e nascem, em média, cinco filhotes.
Em algumas regiões, e até nas cidades, em função da falta de predadores, muitos grupos se tornam maiores, com populações fora de controle. Por outro lado, entre as décadas de 1960 e 1970, as capivaras foram muito caçadas, especialmente na região do Pantanal, quando vendiam óleo do animal para uso medicinal, além de sua pele.
O animal é encontrado em regiões do Panamá, da Colômbia, da Venezuela, das Guianas, do Peru, do Paraguai, do nordeste da Argentina e do Uruguai e no Brasil ocorre em todos os biomas.
