As proibições de viagens internacionais não podem vigorar por tempo indeterminado, e os países terão que se esforçar mais para diminuir a disseminação do novo coronavírus dentro de suas fronteiras, disse a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) nesta segunda-feira (27).
Um aumento de infecções levou diversos países a readotarem algumas restrições de viagens nos últimos dias, e o Reino Unido causou transtornos à reativação da indústria turística da Europa ao impor uma quarentena a viajantes voltando da Espanha.
Somente por meio da obediência rígida das medidas de saúde, que vão do uso de máscaras à distância de aglomerações, o mundo conseguirá derrotar a pandemia de Covid-19, disse o diretor-geral da OMS, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, em uma coletiva de imprensa virtual em Genebra.
“Onde estas medidas são seguidas, os casos diminuem. Onde não são, os casos aumentam”, disse ele, elogiando Canadá, China, Alemanha e Coreia do Sul por controlarem seus surtos.
O chefe do programa de emergências da OMS, Mike Ryan, disse que é impossível os países manterem as fronteiras fechadas no futuro próximo.
“Será quase impossível para países individuais manter suas fronteiras fechadas em um futuro previsível. As economias têm que se abrir, as pessoas têm que trabalhar, o comércio tem que recomeçar”, disse. “O que está claro é que a pressão sobre o vírus empurra os números para baixo. Reduzam esta pressão e os casos voltam a subir.”
Ryan disse que a situação atual da Espanha não é nem de longe tão ruim quanto foi no pico do surto local e que acredita que os focos serão controlados, mas que levará dias ou semanas para se discernir o padrão futuro da doença.
“Quanto mais entendemos a doença, quando mais colocamos um microscópio no vírus, mais precisos conseguimos ser na remoção cirúrgica dele das comunidades”, acrescentou.
