O padre e médico José Raul Matte, que atuou em comunidades ribeirinhas do Amapá por quase 30 anos, morreu aos 87 anos de causas naturais, na madrugada deste sábado (8) em um hospital de São Paulo.
Matte nasceu e estudou medicina em Curitiba, no Paraná. Ao entrar para a vida religiosa, conheceu a Ordem de São Camilo, uma organização cristã que se dedica a cuidar da saúde e bem-estar das pessoas.
Em 1972, saiu de Curitiba e veio morar no Amapá, no hospital da ordem. Em nota, o Conselho Regional de Medicina (CRM) relembrou a trajetória de vida e atuação dele no estado.
Em 2015, uma reportagem especial da Rede Amazônica acompanhou o trabalho do padre que viajava de barco pelas comunidades ribeirinhas e levava atendimento médico a quem mais precisava.

As expedições pelos rios da Amazônia começaram entre as décadas de 1980 e 1990 ofertando serviço voluntário nas comunidades que, segundo o padre, o poder público não alcançava.
Durante as viagens, Raul Matte enfrentou obstáculos de locomoção e até mesmo limitações por causa da idade. Ao chegar nos lares dos povos ribeirinhos, sabia que cada esforço valia a pena e ganhava inspiração para continuar avançando com os trabalhos.
“O padre tem a possibilidade de fazer a confissão, então parece que o povo já sentindo esse compromisso do padre de saber dos segredos e não falar pros outros, sentiam que podiam revelar além da sua parte física de doença, alguma causa mais espiritual que muitas vezes é a causa principal da sua enfermidade”, disse o padre em entrevista em 2015 à Rede Amazônica.
