Um jovem de 18 anos está em estado crítico depois que uma baleia caiu em cima do barco no qual ele estava após um salto no mar, em New South Wales, na Austrália. Nick Myhill teve sérios ferimentos na cabeça e no pescoço.
O padrasto dele, Matt, de 39 anos, conseguiu pedir socorro e conduzir o barco de volta à margem, apesar deste estar bastante avariado e de ele também estar machucado, com lacerações no rosto e uma concussão.

Uma ambulância com paramédicos recebeu os dois já no atracadouro e os levou a um hospital após o incidente, na manhã de domingo (6), segundo a equipe de resgate marinho da Polícia de New South Wales.
As autoridades acreditam que a baleia também possa ter se ferido durante a colisão, e o Serviço Nacional de Parques e Vida Selvagem está monitorando a área para tentar encontrar o animal e checar se ela precisa de socorro.

Matt e Nick estavam pescando no barco quando a baleia saltou, um comportamento normal da espécie. Nesta época do ano, a região recebe um número maior de cetáceos, por causa do período de reprodução.
Um alerta foi emitido para que seja mantida distância desses animais. “Não apenas pela segurança das próprias pessoas, mas também pela proteção dessas magníficas criaturas”, explicou o Comandante da Área da Marinha, Superintendente Joe McNulty.
“Ninguém deve se aproximar de uma baleia a menos de 100 metros em uma embarcação, incluindo barcos, pranchas de surf e caiaques, ou 300 metros em uma ‘embarcação proibida’, como motos aquáticas. Nadadores e mergulhadores não devem chegar a menos de 100 metros delas”, disse ainda.
O superintendente determinou ainda que drones mantenham distância de pelo menos 100 metros dos animais, e helicópteros fiquem a pelo menos 500 metros.
