A Polícia Militar Ambiental devolveu à natureza nesta quinta-feira (4) um jacaré-de-papo-amarelo que havia sido resgatado pelo Corpo de Bombeiros no bairro São Sebastião, em Regente Feijó, nesta quarta-feira (3). O animal foi solto na represa da Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo (Sabesp), em Presidente Prudente (assista ao vídeo acima).
Depois de resgatado, o jacaré, com pouco mais de um metro de comprimento, foi levado à sede da Polícia Militar Ambiental, em Presidente Prudente. Na manhã desta quinta-feira (4), o réptil foi devolvido ao seu habitat natural.
Conforme a polícia, a espécie do jacaré-de-papo-amarelo (Caiman latirostris) mede entre dois a três metros. Animais adultos tendem a ser de cor verde-oliva, enquanto os filhotes são mais amarronzados com costas listradas em preto e pontos escuros na cabeça e na lateral da mandíbula.

No Brasil, segundo a Polícia Ambiental, são encontrados principalmente nas regiões Sul, Sudeste e Nordeste, mas podem ser encontrados também na região Centro-Oeste e habitam as margens de rios, brejos, mangues, riachos , lagos e lagoas, se alimentando de mamíferos, peixes, aves, répteis, crustáceos, insetos e moluscos.
São conhecidos por esse nome, pois, durante a fase do acasalamento, ficam com a área do papo amarelado.
Ainda conforme a polícia, segundo o decreto 63.853/18, o jacaré-de-papo-amarelo não está ameaçado de extinção.
