O ator Joaquin Phoenix, aclamado por seu papel em “Coringa”, protagoniza um curto-metragem que alerta sobre os efeitos das mudanças climáticas na Amazônia e reivindica o papel das populações indígenas na proteção do meio ambiente.

“Guardiões da vida” (“Guardians of Life”) foi produzido pelas ONGs Amazon Watch e Extinction Rebellion e mostra um grupo de cirurgiões, Phoenix entre eles, tentando salvar a vida de um paciente agonizante.
Depois que o grupo fracassa e o declara morto, uma das cirurgiãs, interpretada pela atriz de origem indígena Q’orianka Kilcher, não se dá por vencida e ressuscita o paciente, cujo coração se revela como uma imagem de satélite da floresta amazônica e da Austrália ardendo em chamas.

Tanto a maior floresta tropical do planeta, quanto o país da Oceania sofreram no último ano incêndios devastadores de grande repercussão internacional. “É um chamado à ação. Fiz isso para despertar a consciência sobre o efeito das indústrias da carne e de laticínios nas mudanças climáticas”, afirmou Phoenix, conhecido ativista vegano, citado em um comunicado da Amazon Watch.
“Estamos cortando e queimando florestas tropicais e vendo os efeitos negativos dessas ações no mundo todo”, acrescentou o ator americano, favorito para ganhar o Oscar de melhor ator por “Coringa” neste domingo. Os outros cirurgiões são interpretados pelos atores Matthew Modine, Rosario Dawson, Oona Chaplin, Adria Arjona e Albert Hammond Jr.
“Uma mulher indígena que salva a Amazônia não é uma metáfora, é a realidade da floresta. A Amazônia é o coração do nosso planeta e os povos indígenas são os guardiões essenciais para sua conservação e para o nosso futuro”, disse Leila Salazar-López, diretora-executiva da Amazon Watch, com sede nos Estados Unidos.
O curta, dirigido pelo norte-americano Shaun Monson e com três minutos e meio de duração, foi celebrado por líderes indígenas do Brasil, que sofrem pressão crescente desde que Jair Bolsonaro assumiu o poder em janeiro de 2019.
“Precisamos da solidariedade internacional e do apoio daqueles que podem ampliar nossa voz para que nosso pedido de ajuda chegue a mais pessoas”, afirmou Sonia Guajajara, coordenadora da Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (Apib).
Entre suas últimas medidas, Bolsonaro apresentou nesta semana um projeto de lei para autorizar a mineração em terras indígenas, uma medida classificada como um “pesadelo” por líderes dos povos originários.
