Uma fotografia capturada por satélite mostra uma grande nuvem de fumaça gerada por um dos incêndios florestais que atingem a Califórnia, nos Estados Unidos, nesta semana.
Pela imagem, é possível ver que a fumaça se espalha em um raio de quase 20 km. No meio, onde está o foco do incêndio, uma grande coluna se levanta.

A foto foi capturada pelo satélite Copernicus Sentinel-2, do Programa de Observação da Terra da União Europeia. Em outra imagem, tratada com fotografia infravermelha, é possível localizar onde estão os maiores focos da queimada. Veja na FOTO acima.
Nuvens do tipo causadas por incêndios recebem o nome de pirocúmulos e podem alcançar 8 mil metros de altura, de acordo com a Nasa.

O fogo deixou três mortos na Califórnia e levou destruição ao norte do estado. Na região da cidade de Paradise, a mesma destruída por incêndios florestais há dois anos, as chamas voltaram a causar danos. As fumaças deixaram o céu na região da Baía de San Francisco com tom alaranjado.

Além da Califórnia, o fogo preocupa os estados de Oregon e Washington, que também fazem parte da Costa Oeste dos Estados Unidos. Ventos secos e o calor da época do ano ajudam a alastrar as chamas.
Do outro lado das Montanhas Rochosas, porém, os americanos viveram dias de tempo atípico: em pleno verão, as temperaturas baixaram para perto de 0°C em estados como Montana e Colorado. Chegou inclusive a nevar em algumas áreas.
