Expectativa se deve a revisão na produção do milho, que teve ganho de produtividade. Com revisão para cima no milho, estimativa é de que safra baiana de grãos seja recorde
A estimativa de julho para a safra baiana de grãos em 2020 prevê uma produção recorde de 9.534.331 toneladas – a maior da série histórica do Levantamento Sistemático da Produção Agrícola (LSPA), realizado pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) desde 1972.
Segundo informações do IBGE, a safra de grãos na Bahia deve ficar 15% acima (ou mais 1.250.671 toneladas) em relação à safra de 2019 (8.283.660 toneladas). A previsão de julho ficou 1,9% maior que a de junho, quando a estimativa era de uma safra de 9.359.331 toneladas de grãos em 2020, no estado.
Isso ocorreu por conta da revisão para cima na estimativa de produção baiana de milho, que ficou em 1.800.200 toneladas em julho, 31,8% maior que a de 2019 (1,365 milhão de toneladas).

De acordo com o IBGE, o aumento na previsão de safra de milho na Bahia se deu em razão ao ganho de produtividade, uma vez que a área plantada com a cultura se manteve estável entre junho e julho, em 363.500 hectares.
O IBGE afirma que há aumento na previsão de safra de soja, também, por causa da expectativa de crescimento na área plantada, de 1,600 milhão para 1,620 milhão de hectares, na passagem de maio para junho ( 1,2%). Com isso, a produção do grão neste ano (6,027 milhões de toneladas) deve ficar 13,5% maior que a de 2019 (5,309 milhões de toneladas).
