O Google anunciou nesta quarta-feira (24) que vai excluir automaticamente dados de localização, atividade na web e atividades em aplicativos 18 meses após a data da coleta de cada informação.

Já era possível determinar uma data para a exclusão dos dados, entre 3 e 18 meses, ou mesmo definir que eles não sejam coletados. Mas essa iniciativa deveria partir do usuário, já que o padrão do Google era coletar informações indefinidamente.
A partir de agora, essa será a definição padrão adotada pela empresa para todos os usuários que optarem por compartilhar essas informações.

A “atividade da web e apps” é uma das opções de privacidade mais abrangentes do Google. Ela registra vídeos assistidos no YouTube, acessos a serviços do Google (como música e mapas) e todas as pesquisas feitas no Google.

“Usuários do YouTube terão a exclusão automática definida para 36 meses por padrão no caso de contas novas ou de quem ativar o Histórico do YouTube pela primeira vez. Já produtos como Gmail, Drive e Fotos não terão alterações, uma vez que são ferramentas criadas para armazenar o conteúdo pessoal e não são usadas para para fins publicitários”, disse o Google em nota.
Segundo o presidente do Google e da Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, a mudança está em linha com a “prática atual no setor” e foi adotada para garantir que os dados sejam armazenados enquanto são úteis para os usuários. “[A mudança] garante que o YouTube, por exemplo, continue a fazer recomendações relevantes com base no que o usuário assistiu ou ouviu no passado“, afirma.
