Qual será o impacto da contaminação pelo coronavírus na economia mundial e, por tabela, na economia brasileira? Esta é a pergunta que todos os analistas fazem e que ninguém ainda tem a resposta. Mas, a incerteza sobre as consequências econômicas já faz estragos nos mercados de ativos.
As bolsas iniciam a semana em queda, com receio de que a propagação do vírus provoque uma retração da economia mundial. As empresas que mais sofrem com a queda no valor das ações são as de turismo, energia (petróleo) e metalúrgicas.
Aqui no Brasil, o dólar abriu em alta nesta segunda-feira (27) e a bolsa em queda. No mercado internacional, o preço do barril de petróleo tipo brent, referência para a bolsa de Londres, cai cerca de 2%. Nos últimos dez dias, já sob o efeito do corona, acumula queda de cerca de 10%.
Até agora, o preços se movem ao sabor das incertezas. Mas os analistas, na ausência de informações mais seguras, usam como parâmetro os efeitos provocados por um vírus da mesma família, que em 2002/2003 provocou a Síndrome Respiratória Aguda Grave (SARS). O vírus também surgiu na China e matou 774 pessoas em todo o mundo.
O surto durou oito meses, mas foi o suficiente para provocar uma queda estimada entre 1% e 2% do PIB chinês, de 2,5% em Hong Kong e de 0,5%, em média, em toda a Ásia. A economia americana teria perdido 0,1% do PIB.
Na época, o governo chinês cometeu grave erro, que agora procura evitar. A primeira reação no surto de 2002/2003 foi ocultar o problema. Quando ele veio a público, a falta de informações confiáveis contribuiu para espalhar o pânico. O setor que mais sofreu foi o de turismo.
Uma eventual desaceleração da economia mundial será negativa para o Brasil, pelo menos do ponto de vista das nossas exportações, na medida em que pode reduzir tanto o preço quanto o volume de nossas exportações.
Mas, do ponto de vista da inflação, o efeito pode ser positivo, ajudando a manter o Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA) em níveis abaixo da meta do governo e permitindo que a taxa juros também permaneça em níveis reduzidos.
Um efeito imediato pode vir dos combustíveis. A queda na cotação do petróleo no mercado mundial, se persistir, levará a Petrobras a promover novas reduções no preço da gasolina, diesel e gás.
