A Administração Federal de Aviação dos Estados Unidos (FAA, na sigla em inglês) autorizou nesta segunda-feira (31) a Amazon a testar entregas de produtos por meio de “aeronaves não tripuladas”, mais conhecidas como drones.
A empresa disse que a aprovação é um “passo importante”, mas acrescentou que ainda está em fase de experimentação. Também não há informação sobre quando essas operações irão começar, informou a agência de notícias Associated Press (AP).

A gigante das compras online vem trabalhando há anos nos testes de entregas por drones, que chegaram a ter atrasos por obstáculos regulatórios. Em dezembro de 2013, o CEO e fundador da Amazon, Jeff Bezos, disse em uma entrevista à TV que os drones estariam voando para as casas dos clientes em cinco anos.

No ano passado, a Amazon revelou drones projetados para entregar pacotes em 30 minutos. Na época, um executivo da Amazon disse que as entregas aos clientes aconteceriam “dentro de alguns meses”, mas mais de 14 meses se passaram desde então.
A Amazon, sediada em Seattle, é o terceiro serviço de entrega a obter a aprovação para operar drones, disse a FAA. A UPS e uma empresa do Google obtiveram aprovação no ano passado.
