Os alertas de desmatamento na Amazônia em março foram os maiores já registrados para o mês desde o começo da série histórica, segundo dados do Instituto de Pesquisas Espaciais (Inpe). Foram 367, km² no mês passado, conforme medições do Sistema de Detecção de Desmatamento em Tempo Real (Deter).

Em março de 2020, foram 326,9 km². Na série histórica, que considera os dados das temporadas desde 2015, o mês de março com maior devastação verificada pelos satélites foi em 356 km² no período 2017/2018.
Desmatamento na gestão Bolsonaro
Em nota, o Greenpeace alerta que o aumento de 12,5% nas medições em relação a março do ano passado ocorreu mesmo com uma cobertura de nuvens superior, que pode ter dificultado a leitura dos radares do Deter.
“O que já é ruim pode piorar, com Ricardo Salles trabalhando contra o meio ambiente e o Congresso Nacional trabalhando para legalizar grilagem, flexibilizar o licenciamento ambiental e abrir terras indígenas para mineração, o desmatamento tende a continuar em alta” – Cristiane Mazzetti, Gestora Ambiental do Greenpeace.
O Greenpeace afirma que o atual governo é responsável por um “aumento histórico do desmatamento com taxas anuais não observadas desde 2008, com 9% de aumento em 2020 comparado ao ano de 2019”. A organização ainda lembra a paralisação do Fundo Amazônia e corte de recursos para a proteção do meio ambiente, como verificado no Projeto de Lei Orçamentária Anual (PLOA) 2021.
A entidade aponta ainda que grandes polígonos de desmatamento têm sido cada vez mais observados nas imagens de satélite, com áreas de até 5 mil hectares.
“Voltamos à era dos grandes desmatamentos e em meio a medidas que promovem o desmatamento na Amazônia e premiam os criminosos, o Deter de março é mais um motivo para que o governo Biden não assine um “cheque em branco” com o governo de Bolsonaro”, completa Cristiane.
