O ano de 2020 começou batendo recordes: o último mês de janeiro foi mais quente já registrado no planeta, com temperaturas um pouco superiores às do primeiro mês de 2016, o recorde até então. O anúncio foi feito pelo serviço europeu Copernicus sobre mudanças climáticas nesta terça-feira (4).

Após uma década com temperaturas inéditas, que terminou com um 2019 considerado o segundo ano mais quente já registrado, a década de 2020 já se iniciou mantendo a tendência.
Em janeiro de 2019, a temperatura média do globo terrestre superou em 0,03°C a de janeiro de 2016, até então o primeiro mês do ano mais quente já registrado. Segundo um comunicado do Copernicus, janeiro de 2020 é 0,77°C mais quente que a média no período de referência 1981-2010.
A maioria das regiões do mundo experimentou temperaturas acima da média, especialmente a Europa, onde as temperaturas foram 3,1°C mais altas do que a média do período de referência 1981-2010. No nordeste da Europa – Escandinávia e parte da Rússia – essa diferença superou 6°C.
Já no Hemisfério Sul, o verão tem sido tórrido. No Rio de Janeiro, a sensação térmica chegou a 54°C no último 11 de janeiro, quando os termômetros ultrapassaram os 40°C.
2010-2019: a década mais quente
Segundo o Copernicus, os períodos mais quentes foram registrados nos últimos cinco anos, quando os termômetros subiram entre 1,1º e 1,2°C com relação à temperatura da era pré-industrial. A década de 2010-2019 foi a de maior calor desde o início das medições.
O ano de 2019 foi o segundo mais quente já registrado, apenas 0,04°C a menos que 2016, que continua com o recorde do ano mais quente, ainda que marcado por um episódio de El Niño muito intenso.
Devido às emissões de gases com efeito estufa gerados por atividades humanas, o planeta já esquentou pelo menos 1°C com relação à era pré-industrial. No ritmo atual, o planeta poderá esquentar até 4º ou 5°C até o fim do século.
