Um filhote de gato-mourisco foi resgatado e trazido a Boa Vista nessa sexta-feira (10) após a mãe dele morrer em uma comunidade indígena no interior de Roraima. O felino é considerado raro na Amazônia e figura a lista de animais ameaçados de extinção.
Inicialmente a suspeita era a de que o animal era uma onça-preta, mas depois foi constatado que se tratava de um gato-mourisco – também conhecido como jaguarundi.
O filhote foi trazido a Boa Vista por um servidor de saúde que atua na área indígena. Na capital, o gato bebê foi entregue à Companhia Independente de Policiamento Ambiental (Cipa), onde recebeu os primeiros atendimentos.

“Esse animalzinho foi encontrado por um enfermeiro, depois que a mãe morreu. Ele ficou com dó, e com medo que o bichinho também morresse, trouxe a Boa Vista”, explicou o comandante de Policiamento da Capital, coronel Magalhães Damasceno.
Não foi informada a região exata da comunidade em que o felino foi encontrado nem como a mãe dele morreu.
A estimativa do veterinário da Cipa que atendeu o animal é que ele tenha cerca de 50 dias de vida. O gato foi levado ao Centro de Triagem de Animais Silvestres (Cetas) do Ibama. Ele não tinha ferimento.
“Os gatos-mouriscos, também conhecidos como jaguarundis, são felinos de menor porte do que as onças”, explicou o pesquisador ecólogo da Universidade Federal de Roraima, Whaldener Endo, ao ver as imagens. Quando adulto, o felino pode pesar até 40 Kg.
