Países e empresas precisam reduzir as emissões de gases de efeito estufa com rapidez, dizem cientistas. Brasil fica fora dos discursos da cúpula do Acordo de Paris
O ano passado empatou com 2016 como o mais quente já registrado, fechando a década mais quente globalmente com a intensificação dos impactos da mudança climática, disse o Copernicus Climate Change Service, da União Europeia, nesta sexta-feira (8).
Após um outono e inverno excepcionalmente quentes na Europa, o continente teve seu ano mais quente já registrado em 2020, enquanto o Ártico sofreu um calor extremo e as concentrações atmosféricas de dióxido de carbono, que aquecem o planeta, continuaram a aumentar.

Cientistas disseram que os dados mais recentes ressaltam a necessidade de países e empresas reduzirem as emissões de gases de efeito estufa com rapidez suficiente para alcançar as metas do Acordo de Paris de 2015 para evitar mudanças climáticas catastróficas.

“Os eventos climáticos extraordinários de 2020 e os dados do Copernicus Climate Change Service nos mostram que não temos tempo a perder”, disse Matthias Petschke, diretor para Espaço na Comissão Europeia, braço executivo da UE. Os programas espaciais do bloco incluem os satélites de observação terrestre Copernicus.
Em 2020, as temperaturas globais ficaram em média 1,25ºC mais altas do que nos tempos pré-industriais, segundo Copernicus.
Acordo de Paris
O Acordo de Paris foi assinado em 2015, durante a Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre as Mudanças Climática. O texto fala em manter a temperatura do planeta com uma elevação “muito abaixo de 2°C” mas “perseguindo esforços para limitar o aumento de temperatura a 1,5°C”.
São os principais pontos do Acordo de Paris:
Países devem trabalhar para que aquecimento fique muito abaixo de 2ºC, buscando limitá-lo a 1,5ºC;
Países ricos devem garantir financiamento de US$ 100 bilhões por ano;
Não há menção à porcentagem de corte de emissão de gases-estufa necessária;
Texto não determina quando emissões precisam parar de subir;
Acordo deve ser revisto a cada 5 anos.
