Itamaraty Hosts Diplomatic Briefing on G20 Brazil Presidency Objectives
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) hosted a high-level briefing today at the Palácio Itamaraty in Brasília for the foreign diplomatic corps. The meeting served as a strategic platform to detail the priorities of the Brazilian presidency of the G20, which officially culminates in the Leaders' Summit later this year. Senior Brazilian diplomats emphasized that the nation's agenda will be anchored in three main pillars: social inclusion and the fight against hunger, energy transition and sustainable development, and the reform of global governance institutions.
During the session, representatives from various embassies were briefed on the logistical and thematic progress of the working groups. The Brazilian coordinators highlighted the 'Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty,' a flagship initiative proposed by President Lula, seeking to mobilize resources and knowledge for implementing effective public policies worldwide. This initiative is expected to be a central theme for international cooperation throughout the current mandate.

In addition to social themes, the transition to a green economy was presented as a non-negotiable priority. Itamaraty officials explained that Brazil intends to use its G20 leadership to advocate for fairer climate financing mechanisms, ensuring that developing nations have the necessary support to meet environmental targets. The meeting also addressed the need for modernized multilateralism, reflecting the current geopolitical reality within the UN and international financial organizations.
Foreign ambassadors present at the event expressed their support for the proposed themes, noting the relevance of bringing the Global South's perspectives to the forefront of the G20 discussions. The briefing concluded with a Q&A session where technical aspects of the upcoming ministerial meetings were clarified. This diplomatic engagement reinforces Brasília's role as a pivotal hub for global decision-making and international dialogue.
