Lituânia, Estônia e Letônia abriram suas fronteiras comuns ao soar da meia-noite, criando a primeira “bolha de viagem” dentro da União Europeia na tentativa de reativar economias abaladas pela pandemia de novo coronavírus.
Uma dúzia de guardas de fronteira estonianos retiraram todas as placas que orientavam os veículos a pararem na divisa e se reuniram no acostamento para dividir café e bolo. À meia-noite, os primeiros carros passaram na principal estrada reaberta da região.
“Temos esta pequena comemoração porque agora a fronteira voltou a abrir”, disse o agente de fronteira Martin Maestule à Reuters.

Cidadãos e moradores das três nações bálticas pouco povoadas agora têm liberdade para viajar dentro da região, mas qualquer um que venha de fora tem que se isolar durante 14 dias.
“A Bolha de Viagem do Báltico é uma oportunidade para os negócios reabrirem, e um raio de esperança indicando às pessoas que a vida está voltando ao normal”, disse o primeiro-ministro lituano, Saulius Skvernelis, em um comunicado.

O Báltico abriu no momento em que a União Europeia tenta induzir seus 27 países-membros a reabrirem as fronteiras internacionais e reativarem as viagens de forma mais abrangente, mas com medidas de segurança, como exigir que as pessoas usem máscaras nos aviões.
As novas infecções de coronavírus nas três repúblicas bálticas se reduziram drasticamente, e nenhuma delas relatou mais do que uma dúzia de casos novos na quinta-feira. As autoridades têm relaxado os confinamentos desde do fim de abril.
