A Índia fechou o polo financeiro de Mumbai, metrópole de 18 milhões de habitantes, e ordenou que os escritórios que não prestam serviços essenciais mantenham metade de seu pessoal em casa, de acordo com a Reuters. O Taj Mahal, a principal atração turística do país, também foi fechado. As medidas intensificadas para conter o coronavírus no sul da Ásia.
Autoridades hospitalares e aeroportuárias de Mumbai foram autorizadas a carimbar os pulsos das pessoas que são obrigadas a se isolarem com a mensagem “Quarentena Domiciliar” utilizando tinta indelével. A inscrição mostra a data de encerramento da quarentena.
As ações anunciadas na noite de segunda-feira surgem poucos dias depois de a cidade fechar escolas, cinemas, shopping centers e academias, e também proibir grandes aglomerações.

O Estado de Maharashtra, que se localiza no oeste indiano e inclui Mumbai, é o mais atingido, com 39 casos confirmados de coronavírus, ou cerca de um quarto dos 126 casos do país.
Um paciente do Estado morreu, disse Praveen Pardeshi, chefe da agência civil de Mumbai, à Reuters. Foi a terceira morte na Índia.
