O Dow Jones terminou o dia com valorização de 0,43%, enquanto o S&P 500 subiu 0,31% e o índice eletrônico Nasdaq, 0,26%. Ainda que a Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) tenha declarado que o surto de coronavírus é uma emergência global, o tom menos catastrófico adotado pelos membros da instituição agradou aos investidores, que ampliaram compras no mercado de ações no fim da tarde desta quinta-feira (30).
O maior temor dos participantes do mercado era de que a OMS recomendasse restrições ao comércio e aos fluxos globais de pessoas, o que não se concretizou.

Com isso, os índices se afastaram das mínimas e, na Bolsa de Valores de Nova York (Nyse), o Dow Jones terminou o dia com valorização de 0,43%, aos 28.859,44 pontos, enquanto o S&P 500 subiu 0,31%, para 3.283,66 pontos. O índice eletrônico Nasdaq fechou o dia com ganhos de 0,26%, para 9.298,93 pontos.
Ao mesmo tempo que a OMS classificou o coronavírus como um “surto sem precedentes”, enfatizou que teria sido muito pior se a China não tivesse estabelecido “um novo padrão de resposta ao surto”.
No entanto, apesar dos esforços de Pequim, segundo a OMS, o vírus ainda pode se espalhar para áreas com sistemas de saúde mais fracos e com menos infraestrutura para combater a doença. Segundo dados oficiais do organismo, os infectados somam 7.818, com 170 mortes registradas.
No noticiário corporativo, os ganhos foram direcionados pela continuidade da temporada de balanços nos Estados Unidos. A Tesla registrou ganhos de 10,30%, depois que a fabricante de carros elétricos excedeu as estimativas de Wall Street para lucro ajustado no quarto trimestre e prometeu aumentar as vendas de veículos em mais de um terço este ano.
A Microsoft subiu 2,82% após ter anunciado que seus negócios na nuvem ajudaram a gerar lucros, enquanto as vendas atingiram um recorde, superando as expectativas dos analistas.
Em sentido contrário, as ações do Facebook recuaram 6,41% na Nasdaq, na menor cotação desde o dia 3 de janeiro, após o balanço da empresa ter frustrado os investidores. A forte queda da companhia pesou dentro do índice setorial de serviços de comunicação do S&P 500, que recuou 0,79%, maior queda dentre os 11 setores do índice amplo.
