O Facebook informou nesta segunda-feira (12) que alterou sua política de discurso de ódio para proibir qualquer conteúdo que negue ou distorça o Holocausto.
A empresa de mídia social também disse que, a partir do final deste ano, direcionará as pessoas que procuram por termos associados ao Holocausto ou sua negação a informações confiáveis do Facebook.

A decisão acontece dois anos depois de o presidente do Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, ter dito em uma entrevista ao site de tecnologia Recode que, embora ache a negação do Holocausto profundamente ofensiva, ele não acreditava que o Facebook devesse excluir tal conteúdo.
“Lutei com a tensão entre defender a liberdade de expressão e os danos causados por minimizar ou negar o horror do Holocausto”, disse Zuckerberg, que é judeu, em um post no Facebook na segunda-feira.
Na Alemanha nazista, nas décadas de 1930 e 1940, o Holocausto levou à morte de cerca de 6 milhões de judeus.

“Meu próprio pensamento evoluiu quando vi dados mostrando um aumento na violência anti-semita, assim como evoluiu nossas políticas mais amplas sobre discurso de ódio”, disse ele.
O Congresso Mundial Judaico e o Comitê Judaico Americano elogiaram a decisão e disseram que a mudança ocorreu após conversas contínuas com o Facebook.
“Por vários anos, o Congresso Judaico Mundial tem defendido que o Facebook remova o conteúdo de negação do Holocausto de sua plataforma e tem trabalhado com as equipes de política da empresa de mídia social para revisar essas postagens e classificá-las como discurso de ódio segundo os padrões da comunidade da empresa”, disse o Congresso Judaico Mundial em uma declaração.
“A aplicação dessas políticas não pode acontecer da noite para o dia”, disse o Facebook em um post. “Existe uma variedade de conteúdo que pode violar essas políticas e levará algum tempo para treinar nossos revisores e sistemas sobre a aplicação.”
