Executivo vai assumir cargo na empresa um dia depois de deixar o comando da Organização Mundial do Comércio, segundo comunicado. O brasileiro Roberto Azevêdo, atual diretor-geral da Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC), vai assumir uma vice-presidência da gigante dos alimentos Pepsico, anunciou a empresa nesta quarta-feira (19).

Azevêdo vai deixar o comando do órgão mundial de comércio no dia 31 de agosto, um ano antes do fim previsto para seu mandato. O anúncio da saída foi feito em maio deste ano. Azevêdo, de 62 anos, assumiu o cargo de diretor-geral da OMC em 2013 e está em seu segundo mandato, que deveria ser concluído no final de agosto de 2021.
Ao comunicar sua saída, ele afirmou que a decisão foi pessoal e não envolve questões de saúde e nem motivações políticas. “É uma decisão pessoal – uma decisão familiar – e estou convencido de que esta decisão serve os melhores interesses desta Organização”, disse ele à época.
No dia seguinte a sua saída da OMC, Azevêdo vai assumir a vice-presidência executiva e a diretoria de assuntos corporativos da Pepsico, com o objetivo de “solidificar os esforços de engajamento externo da PepsiCo com governos nacionais e internacionais, reguladores, organizações internacionais e partes interessadas não governamentais”, diz a empresa em nota.
